Using a root domain (yourname.com)

Why www or a subdomain is easier, and what to do if you want the bare domain.

Droply connects domains with a CNAME record. Many registrars do not allow a CNAME on the root of a domain (yourname.com), only on subdomains like www.yourname.com.

You have two options:

  • Use www or a subdomain (recommended). Connect www.yourname.com, then set up a redirect from yourname.com to it at your registrar; most offer "URL forwarding".
  • Use a DNS provider with CNAME flattening, such as Cloudflare, which lets you put a CNAME on the root. Enter @ as the name and proxy.droply.so as the value.
